Lithofacies and depositional regimes of the Kolosh Formation Successions in the Tigran region, North-eastern Iraq

The current study depends on lithofacies analysis of Kolosh Formation at Tigran region in north-eastern Iraq. Depending the physical criteria as grain size, color, texture, and etc., formation is divided to five lithofacies: pebbly sandstone, coarse graded mudstone shale lithofacies. Several sedimentary cycles depositional regimes were fixed studied section represent by high energy regime sandstone medium low Based data which compared with hypothetical model common turbidity deposits, was deposited submarine fans environments. secondary environments are into channel inner fan northern Iraq an active margin basin when northeast Arabian Plate collided Eurasian plate final stages Neo-Tethys closing, has resulted large uplifts subsidence episodes due eustatic rises falls.
